December 3, 2016: International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Since 1992, the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) has been celebrated annually on 3 December around the world. The theme for this year’s International Day is “Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want”. that highlights the recent adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their role in building a more inclusive and equitable world for persons with disabilities.
At UN Headquarters in New York, a series of events will be held on Friday, 2 December, including a high-level panel discussion to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the adoption of the CRPD and its universalization, and an event "Accessible Cities for All" that will bring together city leaders, celebrities, practitioners and decision makers to celebrate their successes in reducing inequalities and promoting inclusive development by improving accessibility in cities.
